At Ngawaka Group, we believe business can be a powerful enabler of social change. We believe we have a responsibility – and an opportunity – to find new ways to help Māori-led businesses grow in a manner that both honours and is informed by our deep understanding of Māori culture.
Ngawaka Group was created with this philosophy in mind. Our intention is to lead the growth and success of high-quality, Māori-led businesses – businesses that will stimulate opportunities for iwi and whānau and return value to our people, while protecting our whenua and taonga.
Our leadership team brings a depth of experience in local and international business, combined with deep understanding of Māori culture, iwi leadership and politics. Led and founded by Phillip Ngawaka and Melanie Catanuto, Ngawaka Group is focused on cultivating an environment for Māori-led businesses to grow and thrive.
Ngawaka Group’s businesses have enabled our people to find a pathway back to employment, to contribute to business growth and prosperity, and to take advantage of development and training opportunities.
Based in Whangarei and Auckland, Ngawaka Group was established in 2018 to promote Māori economic development.
After years of iwi leadership, Ngawaka Group was created to support our people and our whenua by leading the growth and success of high quality Māori-led businesses.
With the Māori economy worth $50 billion (according to the TDB Consultants report), an increasingly significant share of New Zealand’s overall wealth is controlled by iwi. At Ngawaka Group, we’re using our business acumen combined with our deep understanding of Māori culture to deliver business results that have transformative benefits for our iwi and whānau.
Ngawaka Group’s businesses reflect this approach.
